The main
paying audience for games is still men because there's an overwhelming number of older people who will respond to surveys by calling themselves 'gamers' and the public interprets this as them owning consoles or a steam accounts and regularly purchasing games. The reality though is that if you just ask whether someone, "identifies as a gamer", anyone from your math teacher who plays 2048 and your grandma who plays Farmville will be listed as a 'hardcore gamer'.
I'm not really trying to oust women/old people/whatever from the 'true gamer' pool, since my attitude towards the 'gamer' title is kinda like this:
idk i always considered "gamer" to be a really juvenile and p much stupid term people use to sound like they have a real identity
I've just always thought that these surveys about gender-distribution in video games are bullstuff and anyone who has paid for a mainstream video game will instantly be able to tell that the online players at any given time are pretty much completely male.
