OP don't listen to this guy he doesn't know what he's talking about
and just for the sake of not pulling an ad-hominem logical fallacy, i will address his argument

iMacs are overpriced paperweights that cost exorbitant amounts of money for a iffy-performance, low-compatability computer. sure, if you're just some schmo who just wants something to goof of with and browse reddit/youtube and make little movie-edits with, a mac is just fine, but if you want to be gaming with that computer, the last thing you want to get is a mac. they are infamous for their lack of software compatability with lots of games and programs these days, since they occupy such a small portion of the computer market. and for the games that do claim to support mac, they usually are riddled with tons of game-breaking bugs/crashes (the infamous SQlite error, need I say more?), since priority for game functionality is focused on windows users (since they are the ones where the real money is at).

you can get the same level of performance from a windows computer for half the price of an imac, and with much greater software compatability and OS versatility. as for the specific windows operating system to get, windows 8.1 is probably the best thing to get, though i'd just as much recommend getting windows 7 (it's reliable and compatible with practically every program, but it is getting a bit old).

did some1 ask you or

Mac for stability, but its overpriced and has compatibility issues with most games.
PC for compatibility and price, but without maintenance its gonna last you only a few years.

Id go for PC. You can abuse a PC and buy another before it even comes close to the few grand you need to drop on a Mac.
But I see Planr covered that quite well.

macs are decent and have a great user interface
but windows has a lot more support in pretty much everything

maybe the OP should actually tell us what it's for.

Well I kind of wanted a laptop for photography editing... or just gaming... or both.

Well, what kind of games? Blockland, Minecraft, low performance games like that? If so then you should go with the MacBookPro. The Apple Store offers some good photography programs. If you want to do editing then you will want something like the MacBookPro's display; it's display offers a 2880x1880 resolution display and also has great color contrast compared to most PC laptops.

If you are more leaned toward gaming then you should look into the ASUS RoG series of laptops, but those are not really great for photography editing in terms of color and resolution.

If you enjoy playing any sort of video game get Windows.
