Stupid loving invisible walls that wall of interesting areas of the map that look finished enough and would add another element to the area
Unfortunately, that's a design choice.

The ends of the map need to look sufficiently interesting, because just having a flat plain would break immersion (looking at you, Halo's b30). A lot of what makes up this out-of-bounds area is untextured, has no collision and/or uses weirdly scaled models or sprites.

skyrim's 3D sound is p bad yeah

like it's either right in front or exclusively in one ear and that's pretty annoying
