Author Topic: Things You Hate In Gaming Megathread  (Read 2870 times)

Eventually I'll make a better OP...

Because it seems like people have a big problem when others dislike games they like, I thought we might as well have a dedicated topic where people can come to bitch about things they absolutely hate in video games or the gaming industry. Let's use this as a clean space for people to get out their hate, so the little babies who take issue to opinions can keep their topics "on topic".

I really loving hate games like Five Nights at Freddies. They're made with very little effort by people who don't actually care, they take up space in storefronts which could be used by good games and the developers become extremely arrogant because they lucked into being the newest flavour of the month.

It's not just FNAF. Just do a very simple look at the front pages of the Steam Library or the Apple Store. What the forget happened? Why is it that none of these companies actually want to engage in quality control?

Except Five Nights at Freddy's is a semi-good game with a very interesting story.
It's also that Steam has greenlight and Apple doesn't give a forget if a app is bad.
If it's on the front it must mean it is popular and people like it, lol.

Feel free at any point to explain how the mechanics are good. More importantly, please explain how the story of FNaF is good. Since I'm training to do writing, I'm interested in learning what makes a "good" story.

And yet, Steam was willing to ban Hatred and has given refunds for games in the past. Apple has very strict TRCs that must be met if you want your game, or an update for one, to pass through to the store.

Why can't they add a few more requirements to ensure the quality of the content?

If it's on the front, it means they're making or want to make money off it. It says nothing about how much people like a game unless if they're showing a game by user score.

Because that would be ridiculous.

Because that would be ridiculous.
More ridiculous than some of the TRCs I've read?

PS2 TRC: "O Button must be used as 'Accept' button at "Create New Save" prompt"
Xbox 360: "Game must have an animated icon that operates during a loading screen"

Then you haven't actually played the games.

I am sorry. Stop hopping on the "lol games suk thes days" carrot and wake up.
The gaming industry is a business. Watch Game Theory's Youtube video about it (FNAF) if you're curious.

when the graphics options are limited to stuff forget you ace combat: assault horizons

Those both make sense.
More importantly, they're unrelated to the issue at hand. It would be absurd for Steam or the Apple Store to have subjective (and unimportant) requirements for content. If you don't like a game, whatever, but it's ridiculous to suggest that other people shouldn't have access to it just because of that.

games that arbitrarily kill you or otherwise hurt you, Ex: FTL
"you send your dudes to a space station"
"whoops giant spiders you lose one crew member haha!"

Those both make sense.

that first one is perfectly reasonable. more consistent saving between games can't be a bad thing.

That's a pretty bad assumption to make of me.

I actually really love games of this era. I'm super excited for No Man's Sky, and I was absolutely pumped for Transistor and AC: Unity last year (until I learned about what the forget Ubisoft did to it). I'm probably the biggest Telltale Games fanboy here and I've only said positive things about their upcoming titles. You'll note I didn't even complain about GTA V being a bad game; I was just upset with what Rockstar was doing with the port.

I'm only negative because I expect people who make a lot of money out of their games to put an equivalent amount of effort in, which is the same reason why I really dislike simulator games that get famous for being buggy. Based on it's extremely simplistic interface with lacks features I expect as standard, and gameplay that I feel could have been done better, I'm disappointed by FNaF. I don't think it deserves the fame it got.

Watch Game Theory's Youtube video about it (FNAF) if you're curious.
I dislike Game Theory a lot. I feel as though they grasp at straws a lot. I prefer learning the technical aspects of how a game was made, and its actual design as made by the developer. I have very little interest in fan theories.

Furthermore, because a game has story elements, does not mean they form a cohesive narrative/plot/story. You may have a bunch of interesting LEGO pieces, but that's no guarantee you can connect them in a "good" way, or that they even have a proper way to be constructed. I learnt this the hard way when I got chewed out for my stories I submitted during school and college.

Wow did you seriously just make this thread to stuff on FNAF?

i mean the gaming industry is a business but I feel there are devs out there that can treat their game as more than just a product
i agree with mcjob

ot:
i hate games that have an incredibly bland open world. id honestly prefer a linear setup if it means it'll be more complete.

I hate it when games aren't fun

No. I added that so there would be at least one discussion in this thread. If you'd like, I could do an hour rant on Ubisoft or Anita Sarkessian?

I loving hate going through the Torvus Bog in Metroid Prime 2. That bog alone is why I don't consider it my favorite game in the series.
