Any good alternative? I haven't tried mumble.
Mumble.

you can block the ads

yes. go to your internet options in control panel and go to the security tab. in there select restricted sites and hit the sites button directly to the right of it.

add this into the list and skype ads be gone:

Code: [Select]
https://apps.skype.com

now i just wish i could do that on my phone. i can't count how many times i tried to click on a chat only for an ad to load right where i tapped and i get booted to some stuffty bing website

yeah I do it, but it does this in return.

plus no way to block ads in the app version even with an adblocker

I tried slack and it was ok, but I dunno if it does voip

basically teamspeak, ventrillo, and mumble are out of the question because server based.

only good alternative i can think of is google hangouts.

is there a desktop client for hangouts yet?

as a "chrome" app, yes, but i really loving hate that term because chrome is slowly turning into a platform and not a browser.

What the forget, Skype has ads now? The forget is Microsoft doing to Skype. I remember the ol' day when it was still owned by the small Estonian firm. Anyways, I have the piss-old version that doesn't have any of that. 6.19 (452)
