Author Topic: how to increase music size limit  (Read 1177 times)

i remember drendran / nal doing something like this at a new year server, it had to be downloaded manually and would be put into a folder called "Music_long"

i've even got the folder still and there's a song that goes up to 2 minutes

Due to my non-existence in the new year server, i cant help you.

but someone told me The quieter the music, The longer will be

the above post is most likely bogus

What helps is lowering the Project Rate (Hz).
This can be done with audacity.

It lowers the quality but also the size.

This. I have managed to squeeze down 3 minute long songs to below 1mb by lowering the project rate to 16000 hertz, as well as setting encoding to 16-bit PCM.

it's megaton bogus lowering the volume doesn't do anything to the size / length

i'll try this
some of the songs were over a mb tho

what i think was going on with drendran/nal is that they had the music as really long sounds instead of music, and then just looped the sounds on the client.

not 100% sure on this though - im pretty sure there is some function or way to play sounds on client that results in infinite looping but i can't recall if there was any way to turn it off. port could probably confirm/deny me on this.

not at all. dren dran made some script that allowed music longer than 1mb but again it was in some folder called music_long

even i still have it

the one to ask is DrenDran. only problem is i dont think he plays anymore

There is a way to turn it off.
Nothing's stopping you from creating datablocks for huge music files either.

I guess the point of that folder you downloaded was simply that ingame downloads take forever.

he does play but not as regularly; i got him on steam and discord. i'll ask him about it.

last i heard from him he plans to restart the farming server this summer so we might see more of him soon. he was definitely around a lot a couple months ago when he restarted the farming server from the days of old.

Honestly I may give it a month and host it again. That said I went back to my summer job and am working 40-50 hours a week, so it may be difficult.

As for the music, yes I did have a script that loaded music files without length limitations. I don't have the script but it was very simple.

could you share the script please? i'm handicapped when it comes to torque and have no idea how to do something like that
