I've heard that everybody needs to have the addon inorder for the music to be heard.

There's a number of global music addons, but all the recent ones don't need a client addon. One of them doesn't play nice with Autosaver and ends up with uncontrollable global music attached to your build at 0, 0 or something weird like that too, though.
