Author Topic: I'm an starfish.  (Read 3683 times)

Even though I usually frown upon those who spend their life on material things, such as Neopets, Runescape, or Word of Warcraft, after reading the story, I feel bad for people like this.

I was in New York and met this 30-year old man. He was overweight, and working in that famous Toy Store in NYC, FAO Scwartz. He had his Nintendo DS strapped upon his wrist, with a purple case. He was filled with acne, and a Pokemon T-shirt. My friends, who were also there, were making fun of him, as he was pouting in some little-kid type way. I later found out that this man had his game exploited and he lost all his Pokemon, money, etc, over a hack in the DS's WiFi. We talked to him and learned that he had like two years invested in this game, and that it was his life. He was a nice guy, and you can't really get that good of a life working in a toy store, he probably spent a few months of hard work for that game and the expensive accessories he had.
From his description, it isn't just his wagers that would keep his eyes glued to a DS' screen.

I've also had my house robbed before, and known friends who have walked into people being robbed and have been held gunpoint while their own personal belongings are grasped from their hands. Imagine that feeling, and the work you spent, time you've acquired and based just to support a family, buying expensive material things, and watching some men (or women?) you don't know packing it all into a bag. How the forget would you feel if that were you?
I would be upset if I lost my computer, I admit. That's the only possession that could not be replaced. Even though it's under warranty, all my thousands of lines of code for various FPS Hacks and for Blockland would be instantly lost.

Haha, it would be an interesting twist of fate if I was robbed now. I do live in a stuffe neighborhood, but I've never heard of any cases of home invasion.

What the forget? Reading this makes me notice, even though I never met you, makes me not want to meet you, but I want to know one more answer: did you ever have the heart to take this Neopet in a horrible manner?

Whoever were to take someone elses pride and joy, whatever the loving hell it is, is an starfish in my mind. They should all burn in hell.
First, my name is not "IBanZ", nor even "IBan". It's "Iban" in proper case.

And yes, I did. I actually have 3 pets that have existed years now, long before my account was ever created.

Meh, if hell exists I'm predestined.

Oh, also. It turns out she had a lot of friends. I checked to see if my* account was frozen for h4xx1ng, but instead I found it completely wide open with about 50 neomails (Private Messages) from all her friends. I'm answering them all as if I were a complete idiot that didn't have a slight grasp of the English language, that usually works.

Here's one that made me laugh:

At first this made me laugh a bit, since hacking and piracy sometimes brings joy to me, being a pirate relative.

Then I saw Something's post, and I realized that you really shouldn't have done that. It's not about karma or any of that feng shui bullstuff that the koranese made to scare Americans, but it's just doesn't feel right in my opinion to take something from someone, especially when that someone has worked countless months, years even, in working hard to get that something that meant a lot to them. Think of something you own that is very valuable to anyone, like your computer, a PSP or your identity over your credit card even. Think about that, and also think having that something, being taken away from you. After working so hard to earn it, chores for money, working, whatever, it all gets taken away.

That's what you've done exactly to that person. I sometimes feel like an starfish when I massively flame idiots on the internet, but that's only disciplining idiots into normal people. What you've done is taken the glory and pride out of someone working very hard to earn something valuable, because you were bored and tried to show off in front of your friends.

I have a chance to redeem myself. Apparently the 'victim's' account wasn't frozen by Him. It was a temporary self-freeze to prevent any more damage being done. Her friends are desperately trying to get the only thing that has survived the freeze. I'm leaning towards no.

My friends, who were also there, were making fun of him, as he was pouting in some little-kid type way. I later found out that this man had his game exploited and he lost all his Pokemon, money, etc, over a hack in the DS's WiFi.

Stuff like this.. Even if it is Runescape, world of warcraft or pokemon... hard work wasted, it just does something to me. makes me feel bad for everyone that i've ever made fun of. I mean, we dont know what they've been through, we dont know what has happened to them thats made them like that, who knows, they might have been one of the best friends you could've ever had. thats the problem with the society these days. people take one look at someone and say 'Oh, they're fat, i dont want to hang out with them' or, 'They have a zit, im gonna go poke it' what we really need to learn is that we ARENT the only ones in the world. everyone else has their own life, pride and joy.

Wow I never knew anyone that calls their selves an starfish.
That's because they realize that what they've done was wrong to do in the first place and was not as funny to the person affected by it.

Either your friends are not starfishs or they can't realize this.

That sucks. A lot.

Dang I don't know what to say. Im usaly the victim on my runescape account long time ago I was saven for a few party hats over 10,000,000 gp I was just one million gp away I woke up the next day gone it was all gone.

I heard people kill them selves when there WoW(World of warcraft) accounts are hacked.

I read all of that :o

Although you hack, I still love you :D

At first I was going to generally agree with everyone here and say that you shouldn't of done it, but then I realized something.

If you are playing a game for status, you are doing it wrong.

Personally when I play games it's for the experience. Sure a little extra wealth, better equipment, or rare stuff gives you something to be proud of, but I would rather have my experiences, something that can't be taken away.

When I used to play Neopets I never understood the point. I didn't find taking care of fake animals fun, nor the attainment of wealth. Before I realized how boring it was I just never fed my pets (hey, they don't die) and made mass NP grinding on my dial up connection.

(I guess a similar metaphorical situation would be after two years of playing Blockland, and after saving everything you've ever made, having someone steal the saves from you. I know you can't really steal them, but just for the sake of the argument, pretend they can.)

It's become pretty apparent that I'm an starfish. I've figured I needed to post something.

I personally find you the biggest starfish in the community; Ironically, that doesn't mean that I hate or dislike you.

I google search suspected copypasta on sight now

i caught myself doing it to this post and started chuckling hysterically

you can try and be mean, but u fail and make me lol. :D
reading this makes me feel like a noob.

Oh, geez you actually did it?

I say give it back but with a warning:

Stop wasting your time on friggin' Neopets.

i was thinking ebay. . .

if people buy runescape money there must be people who buy neopets stuff
