It's so loving close. The level design is better in L4D, but the gameplay mechanics are more fun in 2.

But then again, L4D is simple and fun, L4D2 feels like it has a bit of fluff to it. It also plays a lot like a sequel.

Answer: they're both fun.

I think L4D2 is much more fun, but L4D has more ominous maps and it's simpler.

I'd have to say L4D2 myself.

L4D2
charger just makes the game that more tense and actiony.
you and partner are low on health. almost to safe room, out of nowhere a charger comes and owns your partner.
and then a boomer explodes in your face. you cant see, theres a charger on the loose, and a jockey just moved you in the chargers path.
