Author Topic: Prefabricated Structures  (Read 838 times)

I had the idea for Prefabricated structures. It would be something along the lines of a brick that you place down, and it places a number of individual bricks in a set formation. Would this be at all possible? If it is, the next step would be able to use a tool to save these prefabs for later (much later) use. This would allow you to use a "Saver" tool on a basebrick (much like a duplicator) but instead of short term save, it would save to your brick tabs. I think this would be VERY useful...

I had an idea for something very similar. This would be very, very helpful.

Isn't there a dupe saver or something?
Also this would be pretty cool

This is genuinely a good idea.

1. Macros + Macro saver
2. dup saver (yes there is one use SEARCH)

Beat me too it.

we already have this... duplicator

Yes, yes, I know about the duplicator. However, it is only temporary. This idea would be a permanent save. It would allow you to take a small build, such as one built on a single baseplate (like what you would use the duplicator on) and save it for later use. You could in this way continue single structure builds from one server to another.

This arose from another idea of mine: modular buildings. The idea was to make buildings out of pre-conceived mini structures with set schematics that would then fit neatly together in a modular fashion. However, this doesn't help at all if these modules can only be duplicated after making them. The Saver would allow me to make these modules and then assemble them in-game without having to remake and duplicate them.

In summary, the saver would be much like the duplicator, but used for longer term purposes. This would allow something you made in another server (Say, a tower you make in every fortwars you join) to be recreated easily without going through the effort of making something you've made a hundred times before.

More to the point: IS THIS EVEN POSSIBLE?
wow, you are thick, you can turn the temporary save into a permanent one with /savedup and /loaddup, with the newest version of duplicator... that's been out since last year

edit: http://forum.blockland.us/index.php?topic=74253.0
that has the saving and loading... and so yes, i think this is very possible

I thought those didn't work if you logged off... Oh well. Thank you.

*Walks away....*
*FACEPALM*

Edit: Where does this save go, exactly? Is it actually in the saves folder?
