i had some mod for a puzzle piece that had the avenue/train-to-subway transition.
but the piece would crash my game every time i tried :(

I never get to the point of using any sort of rail... I also don't think I've had a city above four stories. Since that is the case I use the smallest terrain ever and spend all the money uselessly since the population would never grow anyway.

Bump.

rail for passengers is good because its got the highest travel distance (sims will only walk, drive, bus so far)
even highways dont reach the entire city.
but rail can go very very far.
the same tracks also bring the products from your industrial area to your commercial parts. instead of doubling traffic up with those trucks everywhere.

Bisjac, how do you build your cities?

Like, do you do zone sprawl initially to get budget and population up before rezoning individual region blocks into various roles (like one region's block is downtown, a few are agriculture, there are some suburbs, etc.) or do you lay out infrastructure and then zone around it.

I hate any kind of elevation, I just have to build on completely blank area because I can't stand houses built on foundations. :c

Also, is Simtropolis extraordinarily slow for you too?

I think if I ever do a region wide metropolis, I'm going to use the default timbuktu terrain.

I like hills but mountains when the house has a foundation quadruple it's own height, that annoys me.

How do you guys get your income high? Mine never goes above spending. :C

budget never goes up. you can almost always be at 100-500 profit at any time in game.
way way way late game, you can be earning in 2-4k profits a month, but by that time it might not matter.

the game isnt about making money, its about trying to barely keep your city paying for itself
the budgeting only exists to keep you from building to fast. having infin money ruins the game because things dont develop right.
