Author Topic: "Anti-Save" server  (Read 1047 times)

OK, so, you know when you host a multiplayer server which you built something epic on, and you need friends to join and help you?

Or when you make an epic TDM/RP/??? build?

Well, you know the complete loving TROUBLE it takes to make sure there are no stealing bitches?

Some methods of keeping these guys away are
- Planting your BLID number in hidden places
-Making a custom brickpack not available to anyone else
- Custom Paintset

And more.
But these all take a lot of work.

So, that's why I suggest...
THE "ANTI-SAVE" SERVER!

When you are hosting a server, there should be a little checkbox. "Allow Saving? [ ]"
This would prevent stealing bitches. If no one can save, then no one can steal. If no one can steal, no one can say you stole it.
There could also be a more advanced option like "Admins/Super Admins Saving Only? [ ]" in case you only want to give the build to a friend.

Discuss.
If you find something wrong, just post it. I think this would really help Blockland.

Play Single Player.

People on servers will always be able to save your builds and there is nothing you can do about it.

I stopped people from stealing.

i dont' see the point in that, but i know how you did :D
didn't you just add NO SAVE to the end of each brick name?

Then you can't load it on other servers, or post the save.

Seriously, what's the point in not letting people save?

Brick conversion script?

I just use my own brick pack that no one else has.

Although, this would be nice.

A misguided sense of pride.

If someone 'steals' your build, they're probably doing so because it looks good. Just be happy that they see it worthy of having their own copy.
To save myself repeating what I wrote some other time;
I'd just be happy to know that someone deemed my building worthy of being "Stolen" as you put it.
I wouldn't care if someone stole one of my builds and hosted it on their own server, even if they didn't give credit.
I'd be happy that they thought it was worthy to claim as their own, and even if he claims it as his own and other people play on it on his server, atleast they're still getting the most out of my build.

I'd be happy to know that they've liked my build, and that even more people are atleast getting to see it.
Also, the fact that most of my stuff is expandable, and I usually aim to expand it, I'd still retain it as my own and original. Plus, my building styles can appear to be something that you don't see everywhere. (Not to say they're epic or anything, they're rather simple, really. But, I don't see many people with similar styles).

Keep in mind that true pros submitted their builds to be included in the game for EVERYONE to use. Some even without their name on it.

A misguided sense of pride.

I agree with this. You said that like to know that it was stolen, but what if you don't even know? What if people are enjoying you're build without your knowledge so you benefit in absolutely no way.? How do you feel about that? <- Dr. Phil :P

If there was someone out there who happened to have one of my builds, and I didn't even know, then really I guess, since I didn't know someone else had it, I wouldn't feel anything about it. :S
Although, I understand what you mean. I'd just be glad that people are getting to see my stuff and play on it, even if someone else is hosting it without permission, or claiming it as their own.
They could claim it as their own all they want. People are getting to use it and have fun with it, and that's all that matters.
Plus, if I was confronted on whether I had built something of my own, that someone had stolen and claimed as their own, I would say "Yes, I did build that". And if they didn't believe me, I wouldn't go out of my way to prove them. I'd just be happy with it. I can allways build more stuff. And usually, people have seen the stuff I've built.

If I am building a nice castle, sure I let other people save it. If I am making a giant TDM map with landscape, I use the custom pack. If I didn't, I would later find out spartanmario117 is using my build and filling up his server with tons of addons, spamming weapons all over the build, and his server becomes number one on the list. And don't tell me only good servers make the toplist, because right now l023R's city RPG and Rykuta's mario challenge are the top 2. The people that populate the every day server only care for the add-ons. Only 1/5 of the people in my server actually join because they know it will be cool.

The only thing you can prevent server-sided is saving of events.

The only thing you can prevent server-sided is saving of events.
Doesn't it send some sort of request to the server when a client tries to save events? I'm sure a script could just kick them as soon as that request is received.
