When I ask people what kind of music they like, and they answer "I like all kinds of music" it really pisses me off. There is such a wide range of music that I think it is impossible to like everything from death metal, to ska, to synth pop, to classical music. What's even worse is the fact that it seems that modern music has desensitized most people to think that there's a music spectrum outside of Nickelback to Black Eyed Peas.

Discuss how stuffty current popular music is.

I like all kinds of music.
Except for all kinds of music.
I hate that stuff.

I like death metal, electronic music, classical music and pretty much everything else. Sorry bro, but sometimes it's a reality.

It's stuffty. Discussed [/thread]

I like music...that's good.

Cant you just like music in general? There are people who are into music and those who are not that interested in it. You could ask specifically what genre they prefer, or favorite bands etc.

I'm not saying that it's outside the realm of possibility but it seems to be people's go-to answer when confronted with the question "what's your favorite kind of music" maybe people think that if they like more than one "genre" (I think all current popular music that gets played on the radio falls under one genre) they like all kinds of music.

I hate that "glitch" genre, the one where it takes like "years" to make. Like I'm going to listen to a few glitch songs for a year while I wait for the next three.

Links or it didn't happen.

Rock n' Roll, Alt. Rock, Hard Rock...
I think I'm a rock fan.  Anything with good guitar, a nice drum, and a sweet bassline is cool with me.

I agree 110%

Rock, A little metal, and Techno for me. I also hate those people that are like, "RAP IS DA BEST ALL OTHER MUSIC IS GAY"

@OP: I'm pretty sure they don't literally mean all genres and subgenres of music, nor do they mean Nickelback to Black Eyed Peas. I tend to say that I like "a lot of music" just because I never want to say one genre. My reasoning, and I'm sure it's theirs too, is that they're open to listening to any kind of music thrown their way.

As for the desensitization, it's not the music that's doing it, but the radio and television channels promoting it. People nowadays generally like that kind of music. Personally, it's not my favourite, but I don't absolutely hate it.

And you can't negatively criticize the popularity of modern music just because it's popular. It's not bad, you just don't like it. Look at how everybody is gawking over those oldies from the 70s and 80s. Frankly, I find those people to be more annoying than the ones who enjoy modern music. At least they're living with the current world.

Still, my favourite types of music are alternate rock/post-grunge/nu metal/trance.

I like anything that sounds good to me. My playlist consists almost entirely of songs I heard on the radio that I liked, the rest being songs from my mom's old CD's. I have no preference of artist or genre. I don't think I have more than 5 songs from a single artist.

I hate people that do that. I like Nickelback :o
