Neat idea and possible too. I'll probably make an attempt at it this weekend.

I like this. And it would be fully customizable, if possible?

Ya. You could like choose where to place the doors that go to the other areas I guess.

Should it replace the main menu or just be accessible from there?

DON'T MIND ME EXPANDING ON THIS IDEA

the room itself is a small area with your blockhead, who spawns in the middle, with 4 doors (+ 2 side 'doors', which are simply you going off to either side of the screen to roll onto the settings/server options)

this major 4 door area (join, start on one side grouped together, tutorial on the other side alone, and a new selection called 'edit' smack dab in the middle)

going into the Edit door will let you modify the join server, start server, and 'hub' doors by simply building the sets. but, not the options/apply rooms

if you find yourself doing something stupid like blocking the edit button, you can press escape and simply revert to the default hub for a bit

the join server/start server rooms are technically just little pedestals with monitors in the middle of the room. standing infront of the monitor cues a short-ass cutscene in which your character walks to the very center of the pedestal and zooms into the monitor while the screen blacks out, when the associated GUI appears

transferring to either of the sides of the hub, going through any door, etc, simply fades out the screen and then fades it back in

i thought of something similar to this, but while loading a server, what about being in your own little box where you can build with all default things? but it's all client sided, and you can still talk and see what you're loading, and it will save and load again when you spawn or start loading another server, or you can choose when to spawn

Is that possible to be client sided?

But for this I was thinking that it could not be client sided and need to be in an update, and I doubt that Badspot would do this.

You're clueless, in single player (which this would obviously take place in) scripts have access to both the server and client.

Why are you all suggesting this take place in a special map? You should just be able to choose the map.

it takes place in any slate map, with only a few datablocks to minimize load time- probably just the player and whatever emitters used in the build

going into the edit door simply starts up a slate map and loads the set for you to modify

Something like this?

Yes, and you are able to build in it anyway to want.

What would be the point in building the blockland main menu when you'll just either "walk" to the options, joining, or hosting? Also, what about RTB stuf like Mod manager, IRC, and all other bullstuff.

well it would just be like you can add some stuff that you might think is cool. there is no real point, but just a little fun thing. also, rtb might be able to add a door to the rtb stuff or something.
