So if you buy a stock in a company that owns a major part of the internet backbone (Level3 Communications, AT&T, ect.) couldn't you say you own part of the internet? :O

No, because AT&T doesn't own the internet?

Looks like the own a pretty big part of it to me...
Hmm, I guess you could consider the internet the actual servers that contain it.

You may "own" a bit of the physical infrastructure of the internet, but you don't own any of the content of the net. It'd be like saying the government owns all the cars because they own the roads.
