Thoughts? Compatibility issues? Changes?

Okay, here's my suggestions.

Are you really, really that into AMD?  Because, in my experience, Intel procs are a lot better and more compatible with the latest graphics cards.  Besides the fact that getting a 955 is silly, as you can just overclock a "lesser" model (one that has the same architecture, but with a slower clock speed) to the same speed.  But, as you can see from the price of that 955, I don't think that getting a slower model is an option.  After all, you get what you pay for.

If you go Intel, try looking at a good Asus motherboard, and get the i7 920.  It's 250$ (250$ and 750$ less than the 950 and 975, respectively) and has the exact same architecture as the 950 and 975, with a lower clock speed.  I "overclocked" mine right up to the 975's speeds (from 2.66ghz to 3.2ghz) without even increasing the cpu voltage.  That's right, I never had to increase the cpu voltage, or the voltage of anything else, for that matter.

And, if you go Intel, make sure that Asus motherboard is compatible with the X58 chipset.  Also, get 6Gb of RAM.  X58 really uses triple-channel memory well, and you should really take advantage of that.  It'll be about 50$ more to do so, however.

I suggest that you set your budget at $1000 and try to fit these suggestions in.  If you are an AMD fan, by all means, go for it, but IMO, Intel is better.

Looks fine to me. lol i bilded it

Didn't I pull it off to under $800?

The i7 920 is too expensive for his budget. As the motherboards are more expensive etc.

The budget was set at $800 when I put together the parts list for him. Although I like the idea of an intel processor (That's what I've always used) you can't beat the price of that processor.

The i7 920 is also closer to $290.

Ah, I didn't know that it was 800$.  Hey, if you can talk up your budget to 1000$, go for the intel, haha!

Meh, what's wrong with the 955? 3.2 quad is a far cry from what I'm running now (Pentium E2200 2.20 Dual Core) and is plenty for all modern games.

Besides, I don't feel like picking out a new board and all that jazz and definitely don't feel like spending $1000 on this. $850 is even over my budget, but a long time ago I told myself if I wanted to get good stuff I'd need to spend that much.

Those are all excellent reasons.  It's your money, go for it.  I'm not saying that that choice is bad, I'm just saying it could be slightly better.  But, you'd have to spend more money.  So, go for the 955.

He originally selected the 965 which is a complete waste of money.

Seeing as it just clocked slightly higher for another $15 or so.

noob this should be in gallery.

Are you referring to the fact that said "build" in the title?

I hope you're trolling.

Lol.

I personally prefer AMD. Good choice of processor sir.

Of course I am.
okay fine. I'm bad with internet sarcasm.

I need to get a job. Looks like a good computer, I'm not good with the building of computers, but from my knowledge, that is awesome.

You people suck.

Do it the old fashion way and make your processors and circuit boards out of coconuts and palm tree leaves.
