My mother is a deacon at her church and feels strongly about her religion. I told her that Jesus sucks (my richard).

She didn't much care as it's my choice. She may be religious, but she raised me to not be a huge toolbag, think for myself, and form my own beliefs.

I've talked about this before, but it just tears me up inside when people proclaim that they are Atheists because they hate religion. Atheism is not the absence or abstaining of religion, it's the belief that there are no deities or godly creatures, Christian or otherwise. People say that they are Atheists because they hate how Christians act towards them; when people come up to said person and talk about how they're going to go to hell if they don't believe etc. etc. This is like picking up the most delicious beverage in the world and then throwing it away because the packaging is terrible.

Atheism IS the absence of religion. Atheism simply means "I do not believe in God" not "I believe there is no God". There's a huge difference and if you can't tell it you're lacking in basic logic skills.
