Author Topic: More Magic  (Read 4221 times)

The elemental spell pack is one of my favorite addons and I would like to see more like it. Maybe some more utilitarian spells (Feather Fall from DnD comes to mind). A shielding spell, kind of like the passive effect of the earth magic? Chain lightning would epic against a bot army, but it may be too hard to make...

Anyways, post here your thoughts about the possibility and any other spells you would like to see made.

Spell Ideas so far:

Feather Fall (You fall. Like a feather.)
Basic Healing Spell (without bolt of light)
Summoning Spell (Ridiculously complicated, but would be awesome)
Double Damage Buff
Shielding Spell (see Kevin's first post for details)
Leveled Elemental Spells (i.e. various levels of existing spells with slightly varying effects)
Buffs in general
Chain Lightning (Very difficult, if not impossible to make)
Magic Missile (shoots an orb of force and is possibly heat seeking)

Magic-type model for the portal gun

Wow, 1 vote for each except 2 for I'm and idiot. I wish I knew what you guys were actually thinking....

I liked the good old spells that used the recolored wands.
Especially now with the emitter glitch, it can be hard to spot people wielding magic like amade's.

I like that idea. I'd do it, but I can't script or anything like that. You have my heavily limited support.

I joined after the old fashioned spells were lost and as such have never seen them. What spells did they have?

Anyways, it would be nice if we could get the attention of an actual addon maker like Amade...

Bump.

I thought that this idea would be more popular...

It is.

Summon spells would be awesome, as well as higher level elemental magic. (Fire Lv2, Ice Lv2)

Well, you can judge an idea's relative popularity by the number of votes and the number of posts. Not many of either atm...

Anyways, summon spells would indeed by very cool however they would be some of the most difficult to make and as such I didn 't suggest them myself. You are talking about spawning bots, right? Bots are spawned from vehicle spawn pads. The only practical way this could be done would be to have a side area full of nothing but bots and have an event that is triggered when the player uses the summon spell which modifies the bot to only attack the other team and then teleport to the player and begin fighting, probably for a specified quantity of time.

As for varying degrees of the existing spells, I'm all for it. I recently discovered the wonder of making simple playertypes and I'm brainstorming ideas for an RP or TDM. "Dungeons and Blockheads". Think about it, using VCE, Minigame events (including on onMinigameKill) and a whole ton of addons as well as my own playertypes, I could make a pretty well functioning rpg based off of DnD. However, there are spellcasters who don't use any elemental spells. I was planning on modding the light magic to only use on right click for the pally's lay on hands.

Wow, that was majorly off-topic. Sorry. What I was trying to say was that a weakened light magic could take the form of a standard healing spell and that improved spells could have slightly different effects besides just being a bigger fireball or whatnot.

Fair enough statement. However, it's hard for me to see how people would be against this idea. (Other than the summoning spell, which would be out of sheer difficulty to script) I think the lack of posts is just a matter of either most people being indifferent, or the majority of the forum hasn't seen this topic yet.

I've wanted to do something like this for a long time too, so more spells to choose from would definitely open up more possibilities.

Just simple healing spells would be fantastic. As for higher level magic, I had something like this in mind:

Level 1: Attacks one target (Fireball)
Level 2: Area damage or hits more than one target for low damage (Ring of Fire)
Level 3: Very high damage [one target] or high damage [multiple targets] (Giant Fireball, Meteor Shower)

I still like the idea of more utilitarian spells.

Ooh, what about buffs?

Yes, buffs.

Double damage buff would be cool, but how could someone script a buff for defense without creating a new playertype?

I think the shield effect is very possible, given it would need some epic sauce shield emmitter.

But it could drain your energy level when you take damage, and slowly when you dont take damage.

Buffing effects could mabye be possible but it would be something like Ubercharge mode on Space guy's TF2 medic gun.

I liked the good old spells that used the recolored wands.

Plus the blind feature on Dark is pointless now because of that glitch.

Interesting. "Yes" and "I'm an idiot" are tied at 7 the next highest one being 3 for Harry Potter... I find it interesting that such a large number of viewers think this is a bad a idea while all of the posters have been enthusiastic. If you don't think this is a good idea, please say why so I can attempt to understand your reasoning.

As far as spells go, I quite like Kevin's shield idea. Since a realistic mage would have very little hp, they have to have something to keep them from being 1-hit KO-ed. Out of all possible new spells, a working shield as Kevin described would be one of the most invaluable.

I'm going to start a list of spell ideas in my first post.

Bump.

I would like to hear from some of the people that choose "You're an Idiot". Presumably there is a reason that you do so which seems to escape me. Do you think this idea is not a valid one, or do you generally think that I am unintelligent due to the way I write? Either way, I would like to see more activity on this thread.

I don't know if it counts as a new spell, but I would like to see a spell-like model more the existing portal gun so it could be used in a fantasy environment.

Edit: Due to the high number of votes for "You're an Idiot" without a single reason why they think such, I'm about to delete that option.
