Possible Oil Drilling?

Our President Barack Obama has recently stated that he will start drilling for oil off the the east coast and by states such as Maryland, Virginia, and North Carolina. I am to lazy to find a link right now, but I think he's either doing this to satisfy the Republicans and/or not to have to depend on foreign oil, I see it as an intresting tatic which should be small in scale at the start, and if it works, should gradually and safely build in scale.

Back when i went to chorpus christi, there were hundreds of oil rigsout on the ocean, but not in viewing distance durin the day.

But at night, if you sit on the beach, you tiny dozens of flashing lights, like stats, made by the rigs.
