The Beatles didn't do anything that amazing guitar-wise. They were pretty boring if you're strictly speaking the complexity of their songs. I'm not saying that they weren't good, and they definitely played a big role in shaping how music is today but they still weren't that insane on any of their instruments.

That was forty years ago. He's coaxing sounds out of that guitar that I didn't even loving know a guitar could make. He was a brilliant guitarist, and even if you don't think he's the best ever, you cannot deny that he was extremely skilled (self-taught, too) and changed how music sounds today.
