Not exactly sure, but if I have a legally obtained copy in my hand, I am allowed to make a backup copy so long as I do not distribute it or use it for the means of profit. Since I do this for strict personal use, I'm not defying the letter of the law.

In general terms, not really. The sites provide the emulator programs but keep the bios a "find it yourself" deal.

On my table at lunch, I found an index card saying the advantages of p2p.

Well, I buy all of my songs on iTunes, but for songs that are either "joke" songs for micspamming on TF2 (FINAL COUNTDOWN) or anything that I would want to use but not listen to all the time, I just use a "youtube to mp3" conversion service.  Put in the youtube link, download the ripped mp3, and voila.
