Don't throw the L word around, it freaks a lot of people out (especially at early stages). Even if she ends up using it, I recommend waiting a long time.
Don't put yourself down about looks and stuff like that, a lot of girls actually do go for personality and nobody likes someone that's depressed.
Age isn't really a big deal and people are generally handicapped about that kind of thing. It's crazier to only go for girls the same age, because girls mature waaaay faster and usually end up hating guys the same age as them haha.
Other than those things, just go by your gut instinct.
