Author Topic: Steam Compatibility Mode Forced  (Read 2077 times)

I know, this isn't the steam support forum, but no one has replied to my post there, so I figured that I may get help faster here.

Windows 7 decided to force steam to run in compatibility mode for some stupid reason (It said that steam is not running right, so it forced compatiblity mode, I had NO say.) So when I start up steam, it gives me a warning about it, so I'm trying to turn it off, but the thing is, steam.exe has no compatibility settings set, so windows did this in some random menu I don't know about.  I need help figuring out how to shut compatibility off.

Google returns nothing good.

Try these steps to turn Windows compatibility mode off:

  • Quit iTunes.
  • Windows XP and Windows 2000: On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
  • Windows Vista and Windows 7: On the Start menu, click Computer.
  • In My Computer, open the C:\ drive (or whichever disk your Windows is installed on).
  • Open the Program Files folder or "Program Files (x86)" if you are using a 64-bit version of Windows Vista or Windows 7).
  • Open the iTunes folder.
  • Right-click on the iTunes application (iTunes or iTunes.exe) and from the shortcut menu, click Properties.
  • Click the Compatibility tab.
  • Deselect the checkbox under Compatibility mode if it's selected.
  • Click OK.
  • Open iTunes and play a song.

Whoda, I can't access the first thing, and second thing is completely irrelevant.
EDIT: oh wait, nope, it still is running in compatibility mode even though it's off.  WHAT THE forget IS WRONG WITH WINDOWS?!

I have never had this happen to me with on either Windows 7 ultimate 32 or 64 bit. What version of windows 7 do you have?

Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit.  I think I was lagging on 2010 beta when it did that to me.

I have 2 theories as to why this happened.
1. Steam Beta
2. Microsoft knows the majority of its users are complete handicaps so they made lower end versions of Windows 7 force compatibility mode because most people are too stupid to do it themselves.

I'm saying steam beta, last version (that I know of) lagged a stuffload when it lost connection.

Actually, this happens to me also.

Well, I just noticed that now it says new instead of beta in the corner.

Great, finally I can stop having to drag the damn steam icon back into the tray area.

What do you mean?
The little area for icons next to the clock.
