Author Topic: Non linear, "choose your own adventure" type game.  (Read 3890 times)

i would say about 90% of the posters here have no clue what non linear means lol.
pretty much all those games are linear.
gta iv?

I like nonlinear games likes deus ex and SWKOTOR, but I can't really find any game where the decisions you make affect the story 100%. With the two aforementioned games, it seems that they have a very specific story and you have options about various ways to approach problems, but you get the same problems and story each time.

I'm talking about a game where if you kill a certain person (or some other thing) the story movies in an entirely new direction.
You mean "moves" right?

Have you played SWKOTOR 2?

Is that Red Dead Redemption out? It is exactly what you want in that every single thing you do changes the story. It is a wild west GTA with a bit more advanced options than GTA had.

they said some time in august

grand theft auto games SEEM non linear, and all open world sandboxy.
but really they just have 4-6 linear story lines at any one time, and you pick what one to do when you feel like it. still old school do as your told.

ignoring the story paths give you NOTHING else to do.

gta sa there is vigilante missions and stuff
plus driving and flying school
but liberty city was always linear

Mass effect is not non-liner.
yes it is, everything you do in the first game is reflected somehow in the second
and obviously on the third one

But they have no impact on the plot.

Non liner =/= Same ending every time but different character reactions.
Non liner = NEVER EVER EVER EVER the same story NOR events pretty much, play Dwarf Fortress adventure mode for a example.

K guys?

Something tells me I shouldn't take your word for what is linear and nonlinear.
