1. Guns will always be in civilian hands in America. The second amendment will never go away.
2. Guns don't cause violence; they merely are used in violence.
3. Outlawing guns doesn't make criminals go away. They're already criminals, so they won't bat an eye at owning an illegal weapon.

The only weaponry I believe should be severely regulated are high velocity assault rifles and fully automatic weapons. They do more than stop someone from killing you; they will kill the person you aim them at. Fully automatic weapons are higher risk in general to own, and just one person can kill an entire crowd with one.
