Author Topic: TF2 Skin Help  (Read 1413 times)

I've installed a few skins on TF2, such as the Scottish Reserve (Demogun) and the "Slap-Happy Heavy" (Fists), but I've also got a problem. They only work on particular servers, I'm guessing ones with sv_cheats 1, because they're all achievement servers. How do I install the skins so that they'll work on every server? I've read somewhere that I delete my materials folder, then the game will automatically take the models from somewhere else, but I wanted to double-check. Any help is appreciated.

If you put them in the materials folder, they will work on every server, unless some servers use an add-on that gives you a custom skin, or gives you the default one just for that server, instead of cheating, using High-visibility skins (Like i do xD)

It's called sv_pure.
Most servers have it, so players don't get to give themselves custom skins.
Otherwise, they'll work. So find a server with sv_pure set to 0.

@Devvy: When I download them, I just copy the folders to where they are named, usually everything from materials to sounds. Is this right? Also, thanks, Robot.

Okay, sorry for the 2-3 page bump, but I need more help. I can't really download the skins, here's the problem: I've downloaded a few skins (Such as the Scottish Reserve and a Butterfly Knife reskin), and they stick. Those are the only two that work wherever I am. If I try to download more, they will not work. I've tried deleting my TF2 models, materials, sounds, scripts, and anything else that I've downloaded to, and restoring the just-deleted files from my recycle bin. If I do that and start TF2, it gets stuck on "Parsing Game Info," when I join a server. The only way of fixing this is reinstalling TF2, by deleting local files. I need to know how to correctly download skins to/for TF2, please. Thanks.
