Violist for... about 7 years as well actually 5th-11th grade  6 1/2 I guess.

Around here the violists are rather proud of being violists, there's a total of 7 of us across three orchestras..

Yeah, Violists are extremely rare here, also. In this big group of people, we learn music, art, voice etc. , there are probably around 150 children/teens. And out of those 150 are only 5 violists. Only 2 of them play well. The other 3 are new this year and I help teach them. And in one of the best orchestras in NJ, there are only 3-5.
