Author Topic: What the hell is wrong with my ping!?  (Read 2095 times)

Almost every time I play TF2 online, my ping constantly goes up. The record I've seen was 800-something. Everyone else seems to have theirs around 100 or less. Why?! I'm not downloading anything. Also, the rest of my household's computers are off, so no internet for them. Team Fortress 2 is the only visible program running. What do I do?

Get a better computer.

It's not my computer. It's something with my internet, maybe. But my laptop is very powerful. 32 bots and it runs fine in offline mode

Try restarting your computer. Make sure your don't have any webpages up/hidden programs that still run in your system tray. Also keep all magnets away from your pc. Post results and if this doesn't work I have a few more tricks up my sleave.

If you're using anything less than broadband as your internet its probably why.

Tried all that.

Go to the TF2 server list, and see what the latency looks like throughout them.

Then you probably just have a bad connection.
What kind of internet do you have?

I went to many different TF2 servers. This eventually happened to me in all of them.

I'm using wireless from a wireless service provider. Not the phone style (excuse my lack of knowledge on internet terms).

Well in that case, it sounds to me like it might be your network card. Couldn't hurt to look into.

It could also be a combination of your wireless router or internet.
Post the results you got so we can make a better call. (Not just the letter grade)

Wait, what? Apparently, packet loss testing didn't work, so it may have affected my score. I fixed that, and look what my next 2 tries were like:

Do you experience network issues with any other games than tf2?
