Planning to get a new computer

I want a nice, fast, desktop gaming computer which can run Valve games at their highest settings.
There is no real price range, just make sure it isn't unreasonable during this economy :o

As I have heard, it is cheaper to buy the pieces an alienware computer has separately and build it yourself.

I run TF2 at ultra high settings with a Optiplex GX620
Though it has a Radeon HD 4350

I'm not sure how much it costs but I don't think it's that expensive.

Looks cool, but I have NO experience with this kind of stuff, nor does anyone I know.
If it's easier then it looks, I will try this.
Can anyone at least show me a website with a bunch of good gaming computers?
I honestly don't know where to look, I just want it to have good memory, a good sound set-up, and a good video card.
