Author Topic: Fort Wars, what to avoid.  (Read 3018 times)

Name one instance in which you would possibly need VCE without it being down right unfair for everyone else.

You can use VCE to make sure no one used your vehicles
And other things like...

Announcements, Doors, Locks, weapon Givers, LIGHTS Even, Hmm, Theres a ton more you can do with VCE.
Its not just for spamming projectiles and ultra healing you know.

Away from VCE, i'd like to pick a point with the 'Bases are spammy' bit.

There is only a certain level of creativity that can be put into a fort whilst in the middle of a huge war, and although some people do make an effort to at least make it look slightly better than expected, most of the "spam" is just quick protection. Yes ok there is spam in the form of wierd 52 storey overlapping cubes and bricks everywhere, but you can't expect a masterpiece on a fortwars server

I used to build elaborate bases, but too many lost saves and the killing of builders made me stop.

It's the fact that any of the admins superadmins or the host can ban me or destroy my build at any second for any reason that I don't really want to put tons of time in. But I try to make something nice.

Builders should be allowed to build without having to get killed. I mean, who wants a guy coming around and killing you when your eventing or building. It sucks.

I make a fort build every now and then, and usually put somewhere in the title "NO DM", because I know if I allow a DM, people are going to make several and it will become event hell. The only reason I make a fort build in the first place is simply because I like building forts. But even then, I'm sure you all can imagine what the first person who joins is expecting.

What I intend to do for my Fort Wars (Tomorrow? It's been in planning a while)

  • Disable weapon/item spawning.
  • Disable addItem and setInventory (No exploits for you cigarettes)
  • Try and limit where people go.
  • Limit vehicle sizes, and, of course, power.
  • Host on either Bedroom, Kitchen, or Nieb's.

A fortwars server where the host controls the weapons?
That would suck.

Honestly, this.

A server where people can spawn any over powered gun that the host has enabled would be worse.

Take out nooby crap like the rocket launcher and such.
Just leave in decent stuff like TF2 and Teir+Tactical guns.

My Fort Wars is up,so y'all brothers who want to see a good example, join up.

Clear things up on the builder rules.People abuse it so much it annoys me. Whats the point of Fort Wars if you can't kill people? I like to make it so you need to set protection before building.

,
In most of my servers, including my fort war,  I have spent days trying to make it so that many rules did not have to be closely watched.  For instance, instead of a "NO USING CHANGEDATABLOCK OR MINIGAME EVENTS"  I simply use Script_DisableEvents to make it impossible to use said events. In the Fort War case, I even whipped up a little host only changedatablock event so that I could make a builder class.  Unlike most builder classes, this one can't kill or be killed, and must change back to fighter in order to enter the fray.  I figure, the whole "builder" idea is good in theory, but unless you can effectively enforce it, it's useless.

tl:dr  Just wanted to show that if the host took some effort to properly control their server, many fort wars could be a lot better.

This was after you and I were on  a particularly bad fort war where the admin thought that killing someone using skill was cheating, if I recall.,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
