I'm adding a poll here for people who prefer different variations of Linux (based on the GNU setup like GNOME, Ubuntu, Debian, etc.)

Vote on your favorite one, and also, if I don't have one that you know of, tell me to add it.

I have a solution to all linuxes. ArchLinux. It's like ubuntu, but not at all! Basically, it's base linux that you build your own operating system off of.

Gnome is just a version of UI I believe. Gnome, XFCE, and KDE just change the user interface and not really the distro. Also Ubuntu and most other linux distros can have gnome, xfce, or kde. The main ones for the poll would be Ubuntu, fedora, mint, open SUSE, and debian.

I've only tried ubuntu.

I've tried Ubuntu, fedora, and backtrack, and i Like ubuntu the best.

I don't see the advantage of Linux on a powerful machine. Using an emulator of Direct3D (like WINE) is too iffy and unreliable for gaming, so you're left with great hardware but not much to do with it.

But Linux is great for old / weak hardware, because most of the distros are lightweight. Not to mention many let you cut things out of the operating system to make it even easier to run.

It's also great for web servers / file servers.

Linux Mint is by far the best distro I've ever used, I use the USA/Japan (all free software) version. It's based off of Ubuntu (without all the stuff social networking), and runs on my Eee PC (701, 900 MHz) quite well.

Also, GNOME isn't a Linux distribution. It's a desktop environment for Linux.

I'm gonna try out Linux Mint for the gits and shiggles.

My ram is clocked higher than that. ಠ_ಠ

Yeah, I know, it's one of the original netbooks.

Specs:
Intel Celeron 900 MHz Processor
512 MB DDR2 RAM
Intel GMA 950
4 GB SSD

Now you know why I'm getting the Alienware M11x.

512 megabytes of RAM.

That's all I saw.
