the controls ARE awkward.

Its a military simulation not a fast paced action FPS, the controls are perfect once you understand them and get used to them.

Yeah, I'll play with all of you in september when I get my PC.
The controls, you can get used to.
I have to play on low settings too, but atleast there is a delay instead of lagging you.

I'll have to look into this.

I so badly want this game.

I have a joystick so I'd probably be an air-to-air pilot. What models of aircraft do they have in there? I've seen Harriers and all, but is there anything more?

They have stufftons of aircraft bro.
From fighters to osprey VTOL heliplane
To hercules and F35's

But there are more aircraft in the mods too.

I'd get it, but I can't run it. Gonna have to wait to get my 9800 when I save up enough money. ArmA 2 is amazing, though. I played it on a friends PC, loving massive online battles. I was usually an F35 pilot. If not, rifleman.
9800 as in a GeForce?

You'd still barely run it.

Excuses excuses. The controls are terrible, awkward, and incomprehensible when you first play. And the demo runs like utter stuff; I can play Crysis (old, yeah) on high, and I can barely play this on the lowest resolution with the lowest graphics, and it ends up look like Half-life, but extremely blurry. Oh, and dem voice actors; enemy MAN at LEFT.

I've played games with incomprehensible controls (Universal Combat, everything made by 3000 A.D./Derek Smart), and even I can vaguely understand the reason behind the terrible controls (space/infantry/vehicle combat simulator). Arma is a FPS, it shouldn't have terrible controls.

Its a MILITARY SIMULATION, Controls are based of combat effectiveness, no instant weapon swap because you need to run around and headshot everyone or a bunch of simple point and click ordering. If you where in a combat situation you'd never have the ability to instantly do anything. The Voice acting is word file based allowing custom commands and vast variety of voice communications. The demo is still pre-release engine and no patches/fixes have been applied to it.

I instant know how to command my squads using the 1 to 0 keys on my keyboard to tell them exactly what to do without even looking, this game isn't made for beginners, its a god damn loving Military simulation not a pick up and play FPS.

So, the controls are stuff because it's a MILITARY SIMULATION?

Making a game purposely inaccessible is like shooting yourself in the foot.

Its not purposely inaccessible, you have to sit down and learn how everything works, once again not a pick up and play FPS. The controls are advanced, way out side the standard DO EVERYTHING button, you have options in options. I really don't see how you could possibly blow so hard at this game.

I never saw the reason why people bitch about the controls, they are perfectly fine if a bit "laggish" at times. but I got used to that.

So if I were to buy this what exactly do I buy, I see there's fixed wing and then Just ARMA 2. Now if I have just the core game do I really miss out or could I still have an intresting time with it? Might try the demo today.
