Offline(which in-game is called Village) is only one player, although you can do Arena Play from the main menu(2 players). And Online(which in-game is called Village) there can be thousands of people online. But sadly you can only hunt in groups of four :(

imagine fighting the loving raviente with four people, one of whom will likely bail like it's an alatreon quest
