Help with photoshop anyone?

I need help on photoshop. Let's say I have a square:



and a circle:



I want to put the circle on the square and cut out everything around the circle, leaving a blue circle. How is this possible?

And don't say "Draw a circle on the square and cut it out", 'cause that's not what I need. I need this to work with any kind of shape, such as a bird, and I want a blue bird out of the blue square.

Pretend the square has stripes on it. How do I get the stripes on the circle?

I know how to in CorelDRAW, but not photoshop.

In Paint.NET:

Paste the red circle in a layer on top of the blue square.

Use the wand to select the red.

Move the blue layer to the top, keeping the red selected.

Ctrl+Shift+X to crop to selection.

Delete the red layer.

Another way to do it would be to make the circle white and the area around the circle black, put it on another layer and use it as a layer mask. This is a very important skill. It makes it much easier to go back and make adjustments. Take your pick of tutorials. In fact, this tutorial here uses your very example of a circle.
