Author Topic: My attempt at an RP mod. DDRP  (Read 5166 times)

So I have decided to start my own Game-play Add-on, which I plan to dedicate a server to. I've read about other mods and how they ended up failing, and quite honestly I think I have a good idea on how to make a Role-Play mod that is more than waiting around for the next tick/day to pass so you get a few dollars. So in this thread I'll explain it's key features and update you on progress. I also have a VPS which I will use to host servers with it as soon as possible.

Buying land.
I'm currently trying to make it so that buying a lot no longer relies on the positioning of base-plates.  Unlike mods like CityRP where you get a few different sized lots and pay to place them, buying land will be based on commands, you simply stand at the upper left corner of the land say something like '/buyland 32 32' to buy a rectangle/square of land whatever size you want. And that also means that land can be rectangular, such as a 57 by 12 lot of land.

Getting vehicles.
So far I have implemented a system where instead of just paying to plant a vehicle spawn, you instead just use events to buy a specific vehicle. The vehicles will have many times the hitpoints they do now, but because there is no actual vehicle spawn, once the vehicle is destroyed, you must buy a new one. Second, it lets the prices of vehicles be set to different amounts. The cost of a Jetliner can be different than a pickup truck, for example.

Getting jobs.
I always thought that a lot of the current RP mods, such as cityRP were very boring. You'd get in get one job, walk away and come back when you had enough money for the next job, enter in a chat command to get that job, and repeat until you had the best job. When my mod is complete, the jobs will be pretty much their own games in themselves. Instead of typing /job soldier and losing a hundred dollars and being paid fifty dollars a tick, for example, you would go buy a gun, and go into an arena where you'd fight the other people with the soldier job and bots, and get payed for your kills. Instead of using an education command to get a higher pay, you'd just buy better guns, if you had the soldier type job. If you wanted to be a miner, you'd just buy a pickaxe and go into the mines. Which would be a lot like an infinite mining server, mining different ores for money, buying upgrades, getting killed by lava, going down deeper for better ores, going back up to sell them.

Crime
I always hated going to RP servers where the cops just had a baton tool they hit you with, and in a mod that didn't really have defined jobs, it'd be unpractical to just sell baton like tools to everyone. I suppose I need to find a way to remake the whole police and criminal system so that criminals don't just get hit by a yellow hammer and get teleported to jail.

I'm going to add to this as I add stuff to the project, but I figured I'd share my idea. There are other differences not mentioned too though. Though I don't think I'll give this out publicly I still want to get some input on it, because if I end up making a good mod I don't want to see a bunch of servers using it, pushing down the other good servers down the server list.

I'll upload pictures later to prove this is real, and actually has a decent amount of work done on it a bit later.

Handcuffs might be a reasonable idea for crime. Cops use them, or right click, they may be a playertype, to cuff players who have committed a crime. They are stuck and must be carried to the prison. People may save the cuffed player by attacking the cop.

Ah, a way to drag people to jail, at least it doesn't involve the yellow magical hammer.

For the hand cuffs, use a system like the grapple rope, so it keeps dragging them back to the the cop.

Four or five of the players are randomly selected each 20 minutes or so of (real time) play time to be the jury and they get to vote if the player should be jailed? How's that?

Also, the handcuffs sounds good.

Make it so that police would need a warrant to open a door.
