Author Topic: Portal: "Frequency out of range"  (Read 1280 times)

Yeah, whenever I try to play portal, it just says that on the monitor. It's been like this since like the day after I bought it when I fiddled with the resolution. I see that in the Blockland FAQ that you just have to change to windowed display with Alt-Enter, is there some sort of key combination for Portal as well?

Your problem: Portal is set to a resolution for some reason that your monitor cannot support.

Which is odd because quite frankly it defaults to 1024x768 I think.

Because that was really hard.

I read on one of the links it might have something to do with your refresh rate.

That is a bit what I predicted.

Like I haven't tried that already?
Nothing worked.

It's a combination of resolution and refresh rate that your monitor cannot handle.
If it can go in windowed mode, do alt+enter when it says "frequency out of range", and change the settings that way.

Try right clicking on Portal on Steam, click 'Set Launch Options' then type in
Code: [Select]
-w 1024 -h 768...then hit 'OK'

Working now.
Many, MANY thanks to masterlegodude.
