This. Vista comes with an effective anti-virus preinstalled. Either that, or my father installed it before he gave this laptop to me. In either case, forget off Vista haters.

Also, I find it fascinating how everyone completely ignores my post on rootkits.

Idiots

Visa sucks, if you think I'm an idiot for stating my opinion then thats fine by me.  But you can't make me change my opinion nor, can I make you change yours.

Now back on topic.  If your parents think blockland give your computer a viris they need to have there head looked at by a doctor.

vista loving sucks.

Vista sucks richard from my experiences, Colten. His parents probably should have done some research before buying a piece of stuff.

I used Vista for a very long time and had no problems with it

Vista isn't bad, it's just that it had driver issues at release.  It's not 2006 anymore.

Lucky you.

I got a virus because my idiot friend brung over a flash drive, Opened a file, The computer got a bluescreen, I said not to do it again.

He did it 3 more times.

I still have the virus somewhat lurking on my computer.

No, seriously, that guy must be suffering an IQ of 13.

They don't know anything about computers and will blame ANYTHING you do to be the cause of a virus. because they think they have somehow more intelligence than you about computers.
Once, our laptop was being unusually slow for a few minutes, and the first thing my mom said was "What did you download?"

...

I didn't have any problems with vista untill it got about 500 at the same time, then i jumped to widows 7 beta.

Think of it like this: your computer is like your body. It has to be cleansed of contaminants introduced to it, or they must be blocked completely.

Your body does this automatically. Your computer? Not so much.
Scan every foreign file before running it. If you get a virus warning from an antivirus program when you run a program, abort the program immediately, delete the viruses detected, run a full, yes, full scan on your computer, and most importantly, delete the file and clear your recycle bin.
Run a full scan once every week, update whenever updates are available.

This may seem excessive, but I speak from experience. The two hours a week and extra right click on downloads could keep you from loosing your computer for a month.

Ex 1: I downloaded a .zip just yesterday (probably with a hidden .exe, didn't check), and MSE spotted and alerted me to the virus threat immediately. I was about to run a scan anyway, but it noticed the threat before I ran the scan.

Ex 2: I got a virus on my desktop at one point that claimed every .exe was infected. It was a major pain in the ass hunting it down.

Ex 3: A minor virus gets in. Says you need this "official" Windows update. It's actually a major virus. Your computer is now completely infested.
