ABOUTModern City is a text-based RPG where you can have a citizen and maintain and progress their lives through intricate actions and do other things within a city, which currently has no loving name. It takes place in a modern society and with our modern day luxuries - scratchers games, vehicles, computers - while still maintaining the classic view of a role play setting - homes, hunting, and oddball work. It is a step-by-step community with an equal opportunity for success, or failure.

[8/7/10] Sorry for that bit of slack off there - I'm back on it! I updated everybody's payments, rents and the last abouts of you all. Let me know if I messed something up.
Hunger and thirst has also been removed, as have inactive citizens. Now we have more room for active people!

ADMISSIONAdmission into the world is a very easy process. Just reply to this topic with your reason stating why you would like to play. The current citizens will then have a vote, but so will the Council members, if they choose to vote. Note that voting is entirely optional. If the Council stands by and lets the citizens vote, then your fate of admission lies entirely in their hands. However, if the Council steps in, they cancel out any vote and overpower anyone.
Once you apply, you will be notified by me whether you were accepted or denied. It's simple as that.
You can also become a member via recommendations - if a current resident says you are a great person and you agree to joining, you are pretty much in and you already have a good reputation with the Council. On top of that, you will receive an extra
$500 bonus and referrer will receive a bonus of 100 XP.
COUNCILThe Council is essentially the government of our little world - they decide what events take place when, what goes where, who gets in trouble, everything. They can also deal out punishments whenever necessary. Various punishments include eviction, fines, and, in certain circumstances when necessary, expulsion of your citizenship.
To become a Council member, you must run a campaign for it, which we will do every week until we have enough, or if a Council member somehow steps down or gets kicked out of it, we will elect a new one. This time, everyone's vote is equal, no exceptions. No Council members have exceptional authority here. A vote is a vote.
PUNISHMENTSIf you somehow misbehave in the city, you will most likely be charged with some sort of punishments, whether it involves you paying some sort of fee, some sort of suspension, which is more like jail than anything, expulsion, eviction, or whatever seems righteous. I personally am thinking of making the system an eye for an eye.
However, everyone has the chance to appeal any problem. In this case, we will have a sort of debate on that person. If they can supply sufficient evidence that they are indeed innocent or if they feel their punishment was a little harsh, they can appeal it. If they win the appeal, the punishment will be lessened or even dropped and they will keep their membership here. However, you must think of it like a criminal record - it will always stick with you, whether you did it or not, and the Council will reflect on past cases to see if you really are innocent. If you lose your appeal, the punishment is still valid, however you have nothing to lose.

WORKMost everyone here must have a job or some sort of income to survive here - to pay their bills, buy food and drinks, keep their vehicle, and so on. If you do not have some sort of income, though, you will die and lose all of your statistics. Keep in mind, though, if you die, you do not lose your citizenship, thought you level back down to level one and lose everything.
PERSONAL CORPORATIONSTo begin your own corporation or company of some kind, you need to apply for a
business license, which you can apply for by contacting a general Council member. You can sign up for a license and if you get approved for one, you must pay
$250 for the license itself (an icon will be added next to your profile). To begin your actual business, you must find an available building to host it in (sorry - no at-home businesses!) and make a down payment on it. Then you must pay the monthly dues like you would on your home. Down payments on a business often range anywhere from
$5000 to
$10000. You also must pay for any supplies you may need and pay salaries to any workers.
On the upper hand, you can then take advantage of whatever you're offering by just taking some from your business and you can consider that expense virtually gone from your monthly bill.
This is a very sketchy idea, so if you have any questions or concerns, contact a Council member.
The black market is the city's underground workings that are hardly legal - the Council will be constantly looking for violations that we can take people down for. Here, there are easy jobs - sellings weapons, drugs, vehicles, running chop shops and other dangerous activities. Work is easy and the pay is good but it is a very dangerous business.
In order to cash in from illegal activities, the Council has a Runner - a person who records and reports all payments and transactions in the black market to me. The Council will not know how the people obtained the money or items, but if they are somehow caught by the Council, they're pretty much screwed. The black market employees should probably keep their activities low by posting it in a different thread or through personal messages, to keep safe. Note that the person who reports to the Runner
must inform them how they received the money or items.
I am considering abolishing this entire idea, it seems very... sketchy, if you will.
HUNTINGProbably the most straightforward part yet. Buy a Game License for
$300. Go hunting, fishing, whatever you will, but if you bag a special game, you can be faced with a hefty fine. If you catch a legitimate game, though, you can enter competitions with it and loot it - consider it free food and items.
SKILLSSkills are needed for most miscellaneous tasks here, for certain works, life and so on. Each skill costs cash, so you can usually easily work your way up the career ladder. Think of this as your college.
One point for
$500 or three points for
$1250. You can mix and match.

LITERACY - How good you can read and write.
HANDS ON - How well you work with your hands.
PRODUCTION - Be efficient at producing things.
SCIENCE - Nice lab coat.
REACTIONS - A general category of reaction times, you need to be quick on your feet.
CURRENT JOB OFFERINGSHere is where companies and other corporations will enlist for the addition of employees. They will put their name down, salary, and skills required, payday dates, and if the job is only open for a certain amount of time, that will be listed too. Consider this part the classifieds.
