Yeah, I'd recommend getting Chernobyl first so you can follow the story, Pripyat is mostly a graphical upgrade from chernobyl, but it's much more stable.

The fun thing about the STALKER games is that you can make fun of them being as stable as the Chernobyl reactor was  :cookieMonster:

dont just stand there i said come in

"Stalker, leave this place now!"
"Put that shooter away!"
"You found way to pripyat? We shall drink tons of vodka to celebrate"

get out of here stalker

Mass Effect 2

I just beat it 2 minutes ago. Holy forget that is an awesome game.

Second this. In fact, with a $50 budget you can grab 1 and 2 off of Steam.

Team fortress 2

More Blockland

Hm, I might get STALKER, I am certain I would hate CS:S, Mount and Blade demo was meh, I almost got Mass Effect 2 last week but I want something with high replay value so it doesn't feel like a waste in a few weeks, I would probably never play Minecraft, decent game but wouldn't play it.

Shafin, get out or help.

Get L4D2

I've heard from numerous people that it wasn't worth it...also, never actually got a chance to try the demo of this, how is Global Agenda?

Mount & Blade Warband

$19.99 : Counter Strike : Source
This game, if you have any other FPS that is decent, isn't worth it. It's a major ragefest, and bullets do 8 damage, unless it's a headshot, headshots do 3,000 damage.

It's also difficult as a new player unless you can learn under the expectations of professionals with neckbeards and guns than never seem to miss your head.
