Author Topic: Direct Links - No More Mediafire Popups  (Read 2798 times)

Okay, we all know it, we hate having to use Mediafire as a way for people to download our add ons.

But with this simple routine, we wont have to do all that uneeded crap.

Hopefully all you add-on makers out there read this, so here we go.

Steps:

1. Upload to Mediafire.

2. Go to the download page, where there is the button to download.

3. Right click on the blue letters.

4. Select "Copy Link Location"

5. When you post the add on on the forums make a link using the BBC codes.

6. Post the link on the forums using the BBC crap.

7. For more advanced user, you can make it bold, or make it say download, but I won't explain that now.

8. Finished Results, when the "consumer" clicks the link, they will download the add-on automatically, just like RTB instead of having to go to the gay sites that have pop ups and stupid stuff.

I hope this helped and people use this, as it bugs me to go to Mediafire.

I once got a virus from pop ups.

And I know a lot of you guys have some nice computers.

tl;dr

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU UUU-

Just read the instructions.

I was thinking of this too but I thought it wouldn't work because of the membership stuff

Membership stuff?

Like, Mediafire Pro or something?

6. Past the link on the forums using the BBC crap.

Yeah guys, we have to past the link on the forums.

Oh sorry, I was in a rush.

or you guys could just use box.net

A better and less stupid joke would have been the bbc. As the past is still BC not BBC.

or you guys could just use box.net

Nofu, this just makes a link you have to click directly on the forum page and everything.

Box.net adds one more step  :cookieMonster:

I don't get any ads on Mediafire. Maybe because I use AdBlock plus? Try it, you will like it.

You could also just use box.net and dropbox. They still have a click-through screen but there's no ads.

edit: removed hilarious typo

box.net and dropbox give 2gb of storage and unlimited downloads, you can also create a google site to host your addons. You can make custom pages for each addon and direct link people to them as well. Finally, you could host your project on bitbucket, github, or google code, all of which should provide downloads by direct link. For example, a bitbucket link would look something like http://bitbucket.org/wedge/examplemod/get/00f3aa000aaa.zip. Granted it's unlikely someone would actually use any of these for a Blockland mod, but there's nothing wrong with doing so. You would need a really big mod to warrant it.
