Mods for IL2 are bad.  Stay away from them.

They go into a folder called MODS in your IL-2 Sturmovik folder.

Make sure you have a activator though else they won't work.

Seriously though, the game wasn't meant to have mods, and the developers have discouraged mod use over and over.  If you absolutely must use mods, install All Aircraft Arcade's pack and ONLY play on AAA servers.  Since all mods are client-side, you're giving yourself an unfair advantage if you play on vanilla servers.
