Astrix means I have that one :P

Need for Speed was one of the first series to feature street racing (alongside track), in which the player competed on public roads, giving it an extreme touch. Later games had story lines featuring underground plots and illegal activity giving it a different theme from the standard race-track games.
Another feature they brought was police pursuits, in which if caught in sight by a police car or helicopter, would have to evade the police and not get caught. The player has to continue fleeing until the police couldn't find the player and a certain time had passed since the player evaded to make them give up the chase.
The way you get caught is if either you crash and can't move your car or multiple police cars box you into the side of the road so that you can no longer move. Punishments for arrest include paying huge fines (Cost to State: destroying property, speeding, disabling police cars, ramming civilian cars, etc.) or even having that car taken away.

Benchmarks
  • Over 100 million copies sold since its debut
  • Sales have generated over 2.7 billion USD
  • Launched 15 blockbuster titles across more than 14 platforms
  • Released in 22 languages in over 60 countries
  • Players have raced over 279 billion miles of roads & race tracks
  • Generated over 17 trillion user-generated vehicle customizations

Underground 2 is the best one by a mile.

Underground 2 is the best one by a mile.
Hell yeah

Except it was one of the ones to not have police pursuit :/
Other then that it was the best. I have it on the Gamecube

I liked Porsche Unleashed.

Beats all the street-racing stuff they have.

Added sources and info

I liked the first three, those were fun :D

I thought Need for Speed 2 wasn't good?

I have Hot Pursuit 2 for Gamecube.

Damn, I just played Underground 2 on my stuffty Wii a few days ago. It's a shame my GC controller broke, though. So now I have to import one of those $30 white ones from Japan :(

I really like the street games, I really wish they wouldn't switch off going from street to track and then back every game. But one of the main things that bug me is how the street ones always seem to be horrible in terms of crashing. I had got the undercover and it worked fine for quite a while but after that it would crash so often I couldn't finish a single race. The new need for speed world seemed alright based off the beta but I don't know if I'll end up getting it. Even though they all had a loose and bad storyline it would be nice if they had one for the NFSW, I also hate NSFW's chase system. So many times I was clearly home free or clearly able to get out of a tight situation but I was busted.

I loved the NFS series, but they are just so covered in advertisement.
If they don't stop going doward i may have to decide if i should try to make a street racing game to my liking

I liked the old Need For Speed (1994-2007)
The new ones suck D:
