I beat the living hell out of Baurus right after the emperor what's-his-name got killed.
Yield right after he pulls out his sword and start hitting him as soon as he starts putting it away.

I once waited a few game-months while I leveled up and completed guild quests, and came back to the Sanctum. Baurus was still there, in full Blades armor, guarding the Emperor's non-decomposing body. That leads me to believe Baurus is a robot.
