Author Topic: Steam reinstallation problems  (Read 814 times)

Just last night I did a complete system recovery on my laptop with the recovery DVDs I made when I purchased it. I've reinstalled everything that I had before, except Steam. I keep having issues with reinstalling it and it's really starting to piss me off.

For one, I get this message:

Additionally, when I don't receive that message and it does update completely, about three seconds after the little update box closes, I get a completely different error message that says something about how the Steam.exe file could not successfully be deleted. I'm not running the installation in backwards-compatibility mode, and I've tried uninstalling Steam several times, even deleting the Steam folder from Program Files (x86).

The help topic they have on the Steam support website was absolutely no help to me.

I want my games back, damnit. :c

I get that message whenever I download it (or try to) so that's why I don't have Steam.

Or Spybot.

:c

I have the same problem when I try to install a separate fresh copy of Steam onto my Windows XP partition.

I just used the same Steam from my Windows 7 partition instead :\

I'm guessing their server is having troubles.

At first glance, I thought you had posted that .gif about not giving a stuff or something.

I'm using Windows 7 though. And before I did the recovery it was working fine.

I really hope it's just their server.

Nevermind, problem fixed. I just had to check the box for "Run this program as an administrator" in the Steam.exe properties window under the Compatibility tab.
