Sandbox means you have freedom to do w/e you want. Most RPGs are sandbox, like fo3 and oblivion, but some are linear, like torchlight.

Oblivion, Fallout 3, Saints Row, GTA, and games like them are not sandbox, they are open world.
Games like Minecraft, Blockland, and other games that you could build in an infinite/almost infinite space are sandbox.
Most sandbox games do not have a storyline.
