Author Topic: Getting a laptop for christmas  (Read 4535 times)

I was talking with my mom the other day and I asked if I could get a new laptop for Christmas. So seeing as I don't really know much about computers specs wise, I decided to enlist the help of the forums.
So here's the requirements:
  • Under $1000, maybe $1500
  • Good for gaming
  • Fairly large screen
  • CD/DVD drive
  • USB slots on the left and right sides

I think I have a 15% off coupon for all alienware laptops, but it may be expired.

Usb slots on both sides is standard almost, other than that, pick 1.

Go and look in the dumpster for a can, and stick a motherboard in it.

Whats the cheapest I could pay and still get a good gaming computer? I could probably talk my mom into it.

If it's the only thing you're getting for your birthday/christmas, it better be an alienware.

I have the Gateway NV7802u which gets 5 hours of battery life when I'm running windows 7 professional 64bit.
When running Ubuntu, I get around 3 hours of battery life (linux doesnt handle power consumption well).
It comes with a 500 gig hard drive, 4 gigs of RAM, the dual core t6600 which is 2.2 ghz or some stuff, and is basically built for watching movies, etc.
Also the hard drive is 5400 rpm, and performs great for a laptop hard drive.
What I like most about it is that it has four usb 2.0 ports, an hdmi port, an ethernet port, and a dial up port.

OH BTW it came when windows 7 came out (last october I think?) so it should be down to ~500 dollars. YOU COULD BUY 2

Is it good for gaming? Thats pretty much all I do with my computer.

Also I added some requirements to the first post.
