Author Topic: Getting a laptop for christmas  (Read 4562 times)

Is it good for gaming? Thats pretty much all I do with my computer.

Also I added some requirements to the first post.
Welp if you checked the specs on the machine, you'd be able to see if it meets the requirements of the game(s) you're looking to play it with.
My laptop has 1.7GB of graphics processing--I can run GMod and HL2 fairly easily, but games like Crysis (on generally high settings) are out of the question for me. Harddrives don't really matter, the processor (CPU) is important though, especially for physics-based games like Garry's Mod. (I'd reccomend at least a 2GHz dual core)
Then there's RAM, which isn't as important as the CPU and GPU in this case. If I were you, I'd get at least 3GB of RAM.
Now go search for your machine you little rascal :cookieMonster:

If it's the only thing you're getting for your birthday/christmas, it better be an alienware.

WHy does everyone want alienware stuff so much? they're not the best out there.

General Nick posted something on how much Ghz each type of processor should get for good performance, I believe its about 2.5 Ghz about for a dual core.

Alienware is overpriced.

A laptop with a cd drive? Wow, You're not going to find one of those around. You may as well have asked for a keyboard.

Every laptop I've ever owned or seen has had a cd drive. I don't know what you're talking about.

Well I wanted an opinion from someone who actually owned it.

I was thinking the same thing. Maybe the OP is used to netbooks?

I got one for you.

Get one on Amazon for about 999.99 bucks. Strong gaming computer too. Getting this one for Christmas.

I recently bought my laptop at Best Buy for $740 (that's with tax, without tax it's $680). It's a Toshiba A665-S6050 and it's an amazing computer.

Specs -
Processor: Intel Core i3 @ 2.27GHz
Memory: 4GB DDR3 (DDR3 has twice the bandwidth of DDR2, so technically speaking, 4GB of DDR3 is like having 8GB of DDR2) upgradeable to 8GB
Graphics: Intel HD Graphics (yes it's integrated, but it still works great for games)
HDD: 500GB @ 7200rpm (really good for a laptop)
CD Drive: Yes
USB ports: 4
Number pad: Yes
Display: 16" full HD 720p resolution
Audio: HD harman/kardon speakers (harman/kardon makes incredibly good audio systems)
Webcam/microphone: Yes/yes
OS: Windows 7 64-bit

I can play Blockland on it flawlessly, as well as TF2, Portal, Alien Swarm, etc.

Could you post a link? All I see are $1500+ ones.

You act as if those are highly demanding games.

I'm looking to be playing more graphical games like Grand Theft Auto IV, Assassin's Creed II and Brotherhood, Just Cause 2, and Mafia II. I'd like a computer that could run those at roughly maxed out.

You seem to want a lot for not a lot of money

get a dessktop and build it yourself. That seems like your only option for keeping it cheap.

I already have a very nice alienware desktop, but I want a laptop because I need to take it back and forth between my mom's house, my dad's house, and my friend's house when he has lan parties.

D: SO many divorced people.
