Ok, in school I'm taking a class called Programming I, and next semester Programming II.
We are using a programming intro software called Alice to learn basic Java and C++ (well at least I think).
I'm just wondering if anyone else here has used that to learn how to program. And if so, how much did it help? Did it teach you the basics to make Blockland scripting easier (although BL is torque, isn't it all kinda universal in a way)?

Torque =/= Java
Torque =/= C++
Ask your teacher to teach Torque programming aswell.

But shouldn't it make it easier to learn torque though? I mean, don't they both have the same basic principles?

Oh man, Alice. What a riot.

The only thing Alice is good for is teaching a complete layman logical relationships and interactions. It has very little use beyond that and is barely a step up from Game Maker

Well it's only for programming 1, and 2 next semester we will learn out of certified java/c++ books, then next year ill take web design and AP programming (advanced placement to prepare people who want to take it further to college). So.. thanks for your opinions on Alice, ill make sure to tell my teacher everyone thinks alice is a joke. haha

No, Torque script is based on C++.

IMO no one should head into programming languages right at the start. They should learn how to make algorithms, pseudo-code and flowcharts first, not to mention If-then-else structures and loops.

I'd rather do a 3D modelling class.

I actually taugh a class on Blender 3D last year.
