Author Topic: My middle school says you can't insult someone over facebook.  (Read 4302 times)

Really, that is one of the rules, if you insult someone over facebook, and that person tells the school, you can get an RPC(Required parent conference).
I am dead serious. Can they do that? Can they really give you an RPC or send you home for X number of days with out conference with parents for something over the internet? Ex.
Person 1: Hi guys i am new here, don't call me names cause my parents will sue you!
Person 2: You are damn stupid are you?
The next day.
Dean/Principle: We are calling your parents for what you did.
Person 2: What.
Dean/Principle: You are on an RPC for an X amount of days until your parents come in to to speak with us.
Person 2: For what?
Dean/Principle: For insulting someone over the internet that attends this school.

Can this really be done? Or am I in a school that things they can control what happens over the internet?
I hate these consequences for something over the internet
inb4consequences will never be the same

No.

As long as it doesn't violate the law, the school can only control when you enter the campus and leave.

I mean you can't threaten the person, etc. but calling someone dumb isn't against the law.

You should insult him over facebook.

You should insult him over facebook.
Are you an idiot? They said if I insult someone who attends this school over facebook, i get an RPC

If you really want to insult those kids, then do it under an alt. If they have a friends only account, send them your friend request, if they decline it, don't bother.

That's the joke.

Im not intending to insult kids, im just asking if they can really RPC a person over something on the internet

Yeah, they can.

If you aren't insulting people over Facebook, you shouldn't worry. Though I don't see why a person would want to insult someone in the first place. :c

The only power a school typically has over the internet is how it is being used on their grounds. However they could gather information from it, if need be, seeing as they have some general level of care over you. Some teachers know what their students are doing every time of the day, others could care less. The same could be said for the administration. But once it's out on the interwebs, it's fair game. For the better or for the worse. :o

If they said they would, then they are.

What i mean is, like when you are home after/before school, and yo insult a kid over the internet, can the school really punish you?

My old middle school has the same rule.

You have complete control on your own property so if the school tries this blasphemy over something you did AT YOUR OWN HOME then you should have a reason to revolt
cyberbullying will always be there and you cant stop it
if someone commits Self Delete over being trolled then they never deserved to live
