To be honest, I'd rather not see my lifelong pet slip out of conciousness and piss himself at the hands of some crazy doctor who does this thing all day in some sterile, alien environment. I'd much prefer to be comforting them and do it by my hand, in my home, so he doesn't know what's coming.

Mecha has the ability to be a constructive influence in a community. He could invent a life-saving machine, cure disease, heal the sick. He, like most other people, have the ability to be a constructive person in a community.
An animal can't do that.

And the planet isn't "alive". It's not a living creature.
If dogs didn't exist, the earth would still fare the same. They don't help nature when they're a domesticated race, kept in captivity by man and bred for mans needs. Most of their nature is placed down by man. They don't run around forests healing trees and curing sick birds.

I'm talking about domesticated dogs, not dogs in general. Dogs are a part of the ecosystem like everything else but they are not needed. Think of the thousands of extinct (excuse my spelling) species already. And besides, the overpopulation of domesticated animals due to all the stupid humans on this damn planet it apalling. You guys should volunteer at a animal shelter and then look at this again.
